The tournament showcased in the previous preliminaries and semi-final highlights was truly impressive. The passion and skill displayed by the ten university students who love strategy games were remarkable. If you want to experience it again, please refer to the previous post.
Ahead of the Finals
After the semifinals, the finals were held on August 30th following a week of preparation. This time, the finals took place at the Sentience office in Yeoksam. The two finalists, SilksongPlease(GIST, Korea) and Nabug(KAIST, Korea), arrived early in the morning to get ready for the match.
One player appeared filled with nervous energy, while the other impressed with their calm focus as they prepared for the first set.
The finals were live-streamed on YouTube with commentary in English by CEO Hye-yeon and developer Hippolyte. Kim Gyu-man from Inven also captured the special moments throughout the event.
Finals: The Ultimate Strategy Showdown
Right from the start, both players picked the same character and tech tree cards, setting the stage for an intense strategic battle.
The second round was particularly exciting, with moments that had the audience clapping in excitement. When SilksongPlease(GIST, Korea) was down to almost no health, Nabug(KAIST, Korea) used a teleport card to quickly move near SilksongPlease’s base and launched an attack. With just 1 health point remaining on the base, SilksongPlease made a brilliant comeback by using a heal card he had been saving for just the right moment.
Who Claimed Match Point?
In the third set, a new rule came into play: players were not allowed to use the Broodling-combo tech tree in their decks.
Nabug(KAIST, Korea) expressed some disappointment at not being able to use his practiced deck, but he quickly adapted by choosing the character Tony Sealprano and employed an aggressive strategy, pulling his opponent’s character into his own territory for a direct assault.
Meanwhile, SilksongPlease(GIST, Korea) chose his most reliable deck, using the zombiemancer card to swarm Nabug with zombies while launching attacks on his character.
In the end, SilksongPlease’s strategy paid off, and Nabug’s character was surrounded by zombies, securing SilksongPlease's final victory.
Comments from the 1st and 2nd Place Winners
Nabug(KAIST, Korea), who took 2nd place and won a 500,000 KRW scholarship, shared: “What makes this game so appealing is the depth of strategy and the variety of tactics you can use. It was really fun to adapt my strategy quickly in response to my opponent's play.”
SilksongPlease(GIST, Korea), the champion who won the 1,000,000 KRW scholarship, expressed: “I didn’t expect to win, so I’m really happy. I enjoy turn-based strategy games, and with this game’s wide range of cards and characters, I was able to explore many different strategies, which made it even more enjoyable to play.”
